Klagenfurt City Theatre Backstage
The Klagenfurt City Theatre is Carinthia's largest cultural institution. The task of the municipal theatre is to cultivate the central repertoire of theatre and opera literature - as a living art institution at the heart of a modern society. Built between 1908 and 1910 by the legendary architect duo Helmer & Fellner in free Empire style, the municipal theatre celebrated its centenary in 2010. More than 200 performances are staged in the theatre every season in the categories of opera, operetta, musical, drama, concert and ballet. The team consists of about 270 permanent employees and 90 guests. Equipment and stage sets are manufactured exclusively in the in-house workshops.
The backstage tour is an exciting tour through the house - into the tailoring, the props, the painters' hall, onto the lacing floor and the stage - and gives an insight into the daily work behind the scenes. You will get to know the history and architecture of the house and learn how productions are created.
